COVID-19 changed the world indefinitely. For the Machinists, one such change was the rescheduling of the IAM 2020 Convention and the union’s ability to celebrate, on a grand stage, the winners of the IAM Newsletter, Website and Social Media Contest for 2019.

IAM Local 839 members have voted to “accept” the proposed 3-year contract extension agreement with Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita.
Nearly 3,000 IAM-represented mechanics across the U.S. at United Parcel Service (UPS) and UPS Freight recently ratified a new contract. The new five-year accord falls under a national master agreement, features major improvements in nearly every area of the current agreements.

Members of IAM Local 2068 have reached an agreement with Silgan Containers, bringing to end a nearly six-week strike in Rochelle, IL. The strike took effect just after midnight Saturday, December 8, 2018 when members voted down the company’s original contract offer because of its failure to address a more than 10-year stagnation in wages and unprecedented changes in benefits.

July 31, 2020, marks the retirement of TCU/IAM National President and Labor Legend Robert A. Scardelletti. President Scardelletti has fought for America’s working families and the members of TCU for 29 years as National President, with more than 53 years of membership in the TCU/IAM.

While there have been some security improvements at airports and rail stations, more needs to be done. We have already witnessed dangerous behavior on aircraft from unruly passengers and with reports circulating of upcoming “protests” nationwide in the days leading up to the inauguration, the threat of violence to airline and rail workers and passengers will be increased.
